Yarraville Sugar Plant Pier Demolition
Mid 2024 Accelerated received an interesting call from Tas Marine Construction, asking us if we were able to cut a section of Pier consisting of concrete, timber and steel without our operator having to walk on the pier. Engineers had condemned the damaged structure with access only being grated to workers wearing fall arrest systems tethered to a crane.
We attended site with a road saw and one of our Hilti wire saws and after a rather long meeting to confirm the cutting and lifting methodology, we proceeded to remove the pier.
Our operators created an expansion cut with the road saw to remove the damaged area from pier that was to remain, then using one of our wire saws on the barge we cut the pier from east to west in 2m sections, and then again north to south.
As the wire cut through north to south the sections of concrete were picked up with the barge crane and removed.
